1. Shape: The shape of your burner (linear, rectangle, square or round) will determine the shape of the glass guard you need. Remember that the wind guard will basically sit around the burner, so it is important to search by shape first and foremost. For example, a round wind guard is not appropriate for a square burner shape, and a linear guard may be too narrow for a rectangular shaped burner.
2. Size: A fire pit wind guard is made from tempered glass. This type of material does absorb heat, so it is important to maintain a safe distance between the glass and the flames. (Remember - glass wind guards are meant to sit on the surface of the fire pit, not inside the burner.) The only way to determine the correct size for your fire pit is to measure the burner. A good rule of thumb is to maintain a distance of at least two inches away from the burning area on all sides. For example, if you have a round fire pit burner that is 26 inches in diameter, you’ll want to purchase a round wind guard that has a measurement of 30 inches. For a 20 inch square burner, purchase a 24 inch wind guard.
